From what I understand, the original blueprint for the ’03 yearbook was more detailed. We had a larger editing staff, but the war on Iraq saw a lot of them return to their countries because of Turkey’s proximity to Iraq; that’s why the book has so little text - time didn’t permit. In fact, the soccer team picture was impromptu because they changed the deadline to submit pictures (and everything else) to an earlier date. In addition, we were supposed to have a CD with senior highlights, including everything from sports trips to prom. Again, the war on Iraq reduced personnel significantly and we were never able to accomplish the many things planned. It was still a fun year, though, more so because we had more students than previous years.
For me it was a culture shock; never before had I been surrounded by such dynamic and intriguing people who balanced work and fun to perfection. Jamaica, as you might imagine, is a very conservative culture; so this experience shaped me a lot, and the friendships I made there are lasting.
